YERUSHALAYIM – The air forces of the U.S. and Israel will bomb targets in the Negev on Wednesday in a joint exercise simulating an attack on Iranian nuclear targets, according to Channel 12 on Tuesday night.
The report, which did not cite sources in either military, said further that American B-52 strategic bombers will drop live ammunition, some 100 tons of explosives.
A U.S. official speaking to American media said there will be no mockups of Iranian targets during the drills, and that they are not being held with a particular adversary in mind. At the same time, he said they are intended to send a message to Iran and China.
The Israeli military has not briefed reporters about Wednesday’s event, which is part of the current Juniper Oak operation, which involves over 140 aircraft, 12 naval vessels, and artillery systems from both nations. Juniper Oak is scheduled to end later this week.
