Fast food giants including Pizza Hut, KFC and Burger King will face food shortages this Christmas after GMB workers voted for strike action.
Hundreds of workers at Bestfood, a company who deliver fresh ingredients to restaurants, announced they had voted to strike in a dispute over pay.
Other restaurants that could be affected by the strike action include Pizza Express, Zizzi, and Wagamama.
The announcement came after the workers rejected a company pay offer of 6%.
The union will announce strike dates soon.
GMB national officer Nadine Houghton said: “The parent companies of Bestfood – Booker and Tesco – are making serious money.
“Shareholders are trousering large dividends, while the people who do the graft are struggling to make ends meet.
“All these workers want is a pay deal that protects them from this crushing cost of living crisis.
“Now some of the best-known restaurants on the UK’s high streets will face shortages over Christmas.”
