Sen. Jeff Golden has qualities that every leader needs. He listens to everyone, he is open to input, he keeps us well informed and he gets things done.
Jeff has been a home builder, a river raft guide, a Jackson County commissioner, a journalist, a radio talk show host and now serves us in the Rogue Valley as our state senator.
Jeff co-sponsored SB 762, which provided increased funding that Jackson County Fire District 3 used to add a wildland response unit on shift every day. Other districts in the Rogue Valley used SB 762 funding to add staff, engines and air resources. We are already seeing the benefits of SB 762 with improved air quality due to the quick response of larger, well equipped firefighting teams.
We need leaders who can anticipate and act on future problems. Jeff’s proven record shows he is one of those leaders.
Pioneer Road fire response
Monday afternoon we were startled by an explosion. A large plume of smoke was threateningly close, and a stiff wind was blowing it our direction.
Almost immediately, the first of many fire trucks arrived and ODF choppers soon followed. Despite an abundance of dry fuels, the large turnout kept the fire confined to a house and nearby grasses.
This was a tragedy for one family but could have been horrific for the whole neighborhood. It wasn’t, and for that we owe huge thanks to those who responded quickly and professionally.
To the person with the drone, you could have cost our neighborhood everything. We hope no others are so thoughtless in the future. Fortunately, the choppers were able to make numerous water drops before being forced to stand down.
It’s important to recognize that our local firefighting resources were bolstered by State Sen. Jeff Golden’s SB 762. We needed extra resources to contain this fire, and because of bipartisan support for Jeff’s legislation, we got it.
We can’t stop all wildfires so quickly, but with greater resources at our disposal, our odds improve. Thanks to all the firefighters, police and deputies who quickly responded when our neighborhood was at risk.
